SS EM side cap
Hello my Italian friends,
I would like to hear your opinions on this side cap... IMHO it looks very good...
I pulled this one from ebay... [:D] I hope you like it. I'm looking for some good matching insignia to complete it. Though it's not my intention to sell it as 100% original - original sewn insignia - if I should ever try to sell it...

Hello Dear Emilio,
Thanks for your help!
Re the SS-helmet: One of these days I'll be giving that CROOK-seller (Derek Crouch) negative feedback on Ebay. I received a message from ebay that they are most interested in the matter and that they will investigate it an ban the seller from their system...
I didn't receive any more mails from that seller since the helmet got posted on the WA forum and since his scheme became public.
Kind regards,
Gerd V

Something keeps me puzzled on this cap, but probably I'm just getting paranoid...
When I look at the retaining of the nap under the side panels, I see that there is more nap retained on one side than on the other side... Is that a red flag? [xx(]

Gerd,IMO the different nap wear could be caused by the storage conditions.Have you checked the front of the sidecap with the UVA lamp to see if the shadow of the insigna and the stitching are real?
Emilio

Hi Emilio,
Well, with UV the eagle shadow is very very faint IMO... I can't see a real obvious shadow of the skull with UV light...I see a faint shadow, but it's very hard to tell if it's the skull shadow... The shadows with UV light aren't very very clear, that's a fact...
Without UV it seems quite obvious to see where the eagle was... The nap under the eagle is quite well retained. It harder to see a skull shadow but I can see it i think
Do you know if people fake caps that look, feel and smell worn and fake the stiching of removed insignia... [?]
Kind regards,
Gerd V

Gerd,I can't see a real problem with the cap.Shape, material and construction are original IMO.Can you make a shot of the cap by the side to see in a better way the cut.Thank you

Hi Gerd,
the totenkopf shadow absence is not a real problem. When I was child I played with the WW2 hat of my grandfather...... did not remain insignia shadows on it.
The overseas cap looks really fine to me!
Cheers,
Francesco
