Elmetto M.39 forma-inglese da Leningrado
®Allegato 217089

Soviet helmet, manufactured in besieged Leningrad.
In the late 30's the Soviet Union is preparing for a major war in this connection, the need to establish and equip the forces of civil defense and air defense units. Equipment for civil defense forces, as well as parts of the defense needed a steel helmet. To solve this problem in Leningrad at the Leningrad Metallurgical Works began to produce such a helmet. Along with parts of the defense in low gear helmet of the model used and the militia, defending Leningrad.
Externally helmet bore a resemblance to the English helmet Brodie, and In essence, a simplified version of the British model. Helm received an informal marking M 38. The helmet was made of steel. Weight is 1200 grams of a helmet, steel thickness of 1.8 mm, width 35 mm fields. Liner was made of cloth and had a dome shape. Size balaclava was regulated with a rope at the top of the dome. Mounting liner was not reliable, he was attached with two rivets, located in the front and back of the helmet. Chin strap was made of fabric and attached with rectangular rings to a special holder, soldered to the helmet. Size chin strap was regulated by a small square buckle.
Helmets of the model painted in khaki. Sometimes the helmet logo was applied, which is a schematic view of a five-pointed star, anti-aircraft searchlight beam to crossover, in the light of which depicted the silhouette of the aircraft, and protivogaznoy masks located between the two lower rays of the star.

[264 PaoloM
