ciao a tutti.

yes i'm greek so the story is that many thousands of italian troops masacred or taken as prisoners by the germans in greece...after the war abandoned italian helmets were all over the place by the thousands but the new postwar greek army adopted british & american helmets & did'nt like a fasist helmet. the gendarmerie used even prewar the typical greek army M34 helmet a very simular to the italian M33 so they taken by gendarmerie. the abandoned helmets collected in factories sundblasted & repainted the same brownish- green colour as the old greek helmets..the italian liners inspected & if yet in a good condition retained...if in bad shape then a hole driled on top & screwed in place greek copies of the british MKII helmet along with new greek brown leather chinstraps these helmets used extensively by police & gendarmerie units alongside the prewar greek helmets as riot helmets in the continous 60s violent political demonstrations & riots resulted to the greek dictatorship of 1967 but continued well in to the 70s & 80s & some time during the late 80s sold as surplus to the greek market collectors in greece did'nt like it bc with the greek liner colour & chinstrap it's lost a degree of italian originality but today all stocks dryied out so its hard to find that greek-italian hybrid so ppl slowly starts seeking for one. jugoslavia is the same story as greece...thousands of captured italian helmets given postwar to the POLITIE painted dark blue
