It's 6:28pm here right now Gentlemen. I thought I would share a carbine I posted on another fine militaria site some time ago. This is the Type 44 cavalry carbine. About 91,000 of these rifles were made from 1911 until 1939 when the Type 99 came into production. Most of these carbines served in China where a large cavalry force was needed by the Japanese. Very, very small numbers were found on the Pacific islands. It has a folding bayonet and a sliding latch compartment for the cleaning rod in the buttstock. This example has the "mum" ground. Interestingly, the side of the rifle stock that would touch the cavalry soldier's back is worn down 1/4 inch or more! This example was used roughly in China I think.
