Why are you thinking that your rifle is from AOI (Africa Orientale Italiana = Eastern Italian Africa)?
Have found some marks? The only way to be sure a rifle was used or assigned there is to find this mark

Many thanks for your answers. My understanding of this rifle is that the RE marked rifles were used by Italian troops in Etiopia, etc. and the AOI marked rifles were used by native troops(Askari, etc.). Is this true? I will buy this rifle soon and be able to take a closer look at it soon. Have you guys seen any other official stock marks on Carcano? Possibly a CAS marking? Sal, my apologies, but the rifles pictured are not mine. I have a few Enfields and will post them for you my friend. I look forward to meeting you both soon! Grazie Amici!!

Hi Arditi,
Before answering I had a look on some books of mine but I found nowhere a mark "RE"
neither on normally used rifles nor on those used in Africa. The mark you showed us is probably an handicraft work made by a soldier.

About the AOI mark: after the Mussolini's victory on the Negus and the foundation of Italian Empire in 1936, old Vetterli rifles (model 1870/87/16 recalibrated for using the new cartridge 6,5) were given to the Ascari (word that means warrior) troops recruited among the local population. I think that this mark can be found only on these old rifles

Prima di rispondere ho dato un'occhiata a qualche libro ma da nessuna parte ho trovato un marchio "RE" nè sui fucili usati normalmente nè su quelli usati in Africa. Il marchio che ci hai fatto vedere è probabilmente un lavoro artigianale di un soldato

Per il marchi AOI: dopo la vittoria di Mussolini sul Negus e la fondazione dell' Impero nel 1936,
i vecchi fucili Vetterli ( modello 1879/87/16 ricalibrati per usare la nuova cartuccia 6,5) furono distribuiti agli Ascari ( parola che significa guerriero) truppe reclutate fra lapopolazione locale. Credo the questo marchio si trovi solo su questi vecchi fucili

La mia comprensione di questo è che il fucile RE segnate fucili sono stati utilizzati da truppe italiane in Etiopia, ecc e la AOI segnate fucili sono stati utilizzati da truppe nativo (Askari, ecc.) Non devi scusarti è gia piacevole chiacchierare con te. Prova a mandare qualche particolare dei marchi sulla culatta. l'aspetto dell'arma non è cattivo ptrbbe essere un buon affare. L'unica ragione plausibile per RE potrebbe essere che l'arma sia appartenuta ad un reparto misto fatto anche di marinai e avieri ed i pezzi fossero marcari Con RE-RA-RM, Ciao Sal

Grazie per le informazioni supplementari Oscar! AOI è un momento molto interessante per apprendere. Ecco una foto da un vecchio libro che un amico mi ha inviato. Chiamato "Guns of the World". Avviso RE sulla TS. Forse è stato il RE di truppe italiane? Non so per certo. Grazie per il vostro aiuto Amico.

Senti Sal, ad Arditi scrivigli direttamente in italiano percè col tuo inglese lo metti fuori pista.

BTW fourth and fifth pics in that bookpage are inverted. The mod 91/24 is the one with the folding bayonet while the 91TS (special troops) is the one with full stock and the peculiar transverse bayonet lug.

As I have said before I have found nothing on my books about an official mark like your.

It's true that some old rifles given to the Ascari were marked AOI but not all the rifles for the Ascari Troops were so marked. This of course IMHO
However here there are some guys really expert on the Italian rifles that could help you

Come ho detto prima sui miei libri non non ho trovato nulla su marchi ufficiali analoghi al tuo.
E' vero che alcuni vecchi fucili dati agli Ascari erano marchiati AOI ma non tutti quelli dati alle truppe Ascari lo erano. Tutto ciò IMHO
Comunque qui ci sono degli appassionati veramente esperti di fucili italiani che potrebbero
