Hi Arditi and many thanks for the intervention! Do you know what? I've realized that I've got my wires crossed as I intended to discuss a different island, very near to Corregidor and that together with a third one, called Caballo Island was strategically placed in Manila Bay. The one I'm referring to is El Fraile Island, with its fort, Fort Drum, the concrete ship, only taken by the US troops after pumping diesel oil and gasoline and burning his japs occupants.

Sai pero' che mi sono accorto di essermi confuso in quanto volevo discutere un'isola diversa, molto vicino a Corregidor e che insieme ad una terza, quella di Caballo, era strategicamente posizionata nella baia di Manila. Quella a cui mi riferisco e'l'isola di El Fraile col suo forte,il Forte Drum, la nave in cemento, conquistata dagli americani solo dopo aver pompato olio diesel e benzina bruciando gli occupanti giapponesi.

Hi Arditi, I've myself been to the Philippines 8 times, not in Manila, Luzon, but in the Central Province of Visayas wherer myself and my wife have a house. Where were you stationed, Subic or Clarks' Air Base?
Ever heard about the Yama****a gold hidden by the retreating Japs? Lots of fools have been sucked in and spent thousands of dollars looking for it aha ahh ahh......[:142] Mind you, some treasure was actually found, but not by me....[:211] Regards bro.

Dove eri stazionato, Subic (base navale americana)od alla Clarks Air Base (base aerea americana)? Mai sentito dell'oro di Tomoyuki Yama****a (generale giapponese)nascosto dalle truppe giapponesi in ritirata? Hi Me Ne Frego,
A house in the Philippines!? That is a dream for many folks! Is food and lodging still inexpensive as it was in the 80's? I would visit Subic Bay and go into Olongapo the bustling town outside the base. I was much younger then. haha I was never stationed there, but would make port stops with the shipborn Marines that were traveling the Pacific from Okinawa and California. I still have some handicrafts that were made very expertly and cheaply there.
Was it Yama****a? I've heard the story. Was some of it found by a Philipino who then had it taken from him by Marcos? I seem to remember a story to that effect.

Visiterei la baia di Subic ed entrerei in Olongapo la città* agitantesi fuori della base. Allora ero molto più giovane. haha I non è stato disposto mai là*, ma farebbe gli arresti port con i fanti di marina dello shipborn che stavano viaggiando il Pacifico da Okinawa e dalla California. Ancora ho alcuni artigianato che sono stati fatti molto esperto ed economicamente là*. Era Yama****a? Ho sentito la storia. Alcuno di esso è stato trovato da un Philipino che allora lo ha avuto preso da lui da Marcos? Sembro ricordarsi di una storia a quell'effetto. Hi Arditi, yeah apparently Marcos had found $8 billions worth of treasure from one concealed tunnel known as "Teresa 2", 61 km (38 mi) south of Manila and then went on to apparently rob a guy called Rogelio Roxas of an allegedly 1 ton gold buddha and thousands of gold bars found near Baguio in 1971! No wonder the first lady could efford all the shoes she went on to collect over the years, dear Imelda.
Life is still good in the Philippines, may be not as cheap now, but still good. I believe that both bases are now shut as the Cold War is now over, please confirm. The US army is still busy in Mindanao though, trying to sort out the headache of the moro separatists. OK, enough of politics now. Good to hear from you. See you later bro. [ciao2]
Ciao Arditi, si apparentemente Marcos (ex presidente delle Filippine) trovo' un tesoro valutato 8 miliardi di dollari in un tunnel chiamato "Teresa2" 61 chilometri a sud di Manila e poi derubo' un certo Rogelio Roxas di un Budda da una tonnellata d'oro e migliaia di lingotti d'oro trovati vicino a Baguio (cittadina in zona montagnosa a nord di Manila)nel 1971. Ecco come la moglie si pote' permettere la famosa raccolta di scarpe collezionata negli anni, cara Imelda!
La vita e' sempre bella nelle Filippine, non cosi economica oggi, ma sempre bella. Credo che entrambi le basi US siano ora chiuse per la cessazione della Guerra Fredda, prego conferma. L'esercito US e' pero' tuttora indaffarato a Mindanao per risolvere il problema dei separatisti mori. OK adesso basta con la politica. E' stato un piacere risentirti. Arrivederci a presto fratello. I did not know that the bases had closed. The last time that I was there was in 1986 and I believe Marcos was still in power. I think it was Aquino(sp?) and many of the Philipino people that protested to get the bases closed down, but I was out of the loop and worried about college and girls after I got out of the service in 1987. So I'm not sure. Look forward to talking with you again.

Hi me Ne Frego, non ho saputo che le basi hanno avute chiuso. L'ultima volta che ero là* avevo luogo in 1986 ed io credono che Marcos sia stato ancora nell'alimentazione. Penso che sia stato Aquino(sp?) e molte della gente di Philipino che ha protestato per ottenere alle basi il basso chiuso, ma io eravamo dal ciclo e siamo stati preoccupati per l'università* e le ragazze dopo che uscissi del servizio in 1987. Così non sono sicuro. Osservi in avanti alla comunicazione con voi ancora. Il più bene, Arditi[]
