Marine/Army cap

A friend of mine in town; served with Co. F 28th Marines at Iwo Jima. He gave me the cap he wore while there some time back. He is 80 years old now. He joined the Marines when he was 17 years old!! He still has nightmares of that time. Here is his picture. He is still very sharp minded today, but has many health problems.
In Friendly Scholarship, Arditi ps..Fratellone, can you tell me what model cap this is please?

Un amico di mine in città*; servito con i fanti di marina di Co. F ventottesima a Iwo Jima. Mi ha dato la protezione che ha portato mentre là* una certa parte posteriore di tempo. Ora ha 80 anni. Ha unito i fanti di marina quando aveva 17 anni!! Ancora ha incubi di quel tempo. Qui è la sua immagine. à? ancora molto tagliente occupato di oggi, ma ha molti problemi di salute.

Yes,this is a Herringbone Twill first pattern for USMC.This was the standard HBT cap used by the Army and adopted by Marines.It's stenciled by Marines crest,but in your item it was faded a lot.I see the stencil just a bit.I think the sun,the water of the sea and the washes had done it.It was replaced in the late war by the second pattern,that was a bit different.In fact it was designed begun by a mechanic's cap in blue denim.Second pattern has a longer peak that shade eyes than the first pattern.

Sì,è un Herringbone Twill primo tipo per l'USMC.Questo era il cappello HBT standard usato dall'Esercito ed adottato dai Marines.Nel tuo oggetto è scomparso molto,ma c'è uno stencil con il crest dei Marines.Vedo solo un po' lo stencil.Penso che il sole,l'acqua di mare ed i lavaggi abbiano fatto ciò.Questo è stato sostituito a fine guerra dal secondo modello,che è un po' diverso.Infatti è stato progettato partendo dal cappello da meccanico in blu denim.Il secondo modello ha una visiera più lunga rispetto al primo,che copre e protegge gli occhi.
