Ciao Ragazzi,
Here is the first and second model of the US Army "Herringbone Twill" of WWII. These tunics were used as combat clothing in the Pacific by the Army and there is visual evidence that the Marines were issued these as well on occasion. Notice the difference in "od" shade between the first and second pattern. Fratello, can you share more on these tunics please?

Wonderful jackets,Brother.What can I do about these wonderful items?Well,about first pattern:in the autumn of 1938 herrigbone twill was introduced into the Army for fatigue clothing.A one-piece coverall was the first item to be used,similar to the one already used by Airforce mechanics,but the Army also required a two-piece for general issue.The jacket was made in a coat style,having a buttoned front with lapels,and the sleeves ending in shirt-style cuffs with a two-position fastening.On the breast were two pockets with fastening flaps,and on the pocket fronts were non-functional stylized pleats.The jacket had a waistband with adjusting straps and buckles positioned at the rear hips.It had small pleats on the rear shoulders,but these were not the same of as the bi-swing back.Intended to be a very loose fitting jacket,the correct size when worn would appear to be two or three sizes too large.It can also be found with light-coloured plastic buttons,presumably for tropical issue.
And now about second pattern:it was of a more semplified design than the first pattern,from which the added-on waist-belt,buckle adjusters and buttoned cuffs were dropped.The pockets were made without the imitation centre pleats which in any case did not expand the pocket and so were purposeless.Manufacturing time was also saved by leaving the corners of the pockets square and not clipped.This shirt has surely a gas flap behind the front closure,and two buttons under the collar for attaching the antigas woolen hood.And now about HBT of USMC:made in about 1941 and thought to be the first pattern HBT jacket for the two-piece dungaree suit.Made in HBT with two lower pockets and one left chest pocket that features the Marine emblem.The buttons being stamped "US Marine Corps".At a later date these jackets were field modified by removing the two lower pockets,thereby turning it into a shirt.
